excellence out of poverty
Children are on the streets for many reasons. They have lost parents to HIV and fallen victim to abandonment, extreme poverty and family breakdown.
Some have raised themselves on the street, sleeping under makeshift shelters, suffering disease and malnutrition and turning to violence and crime to make a living.
Others are the breadwinners for their families, going to town from surrounding villages to beg or do small jobs to take money home at the end of the night.

We reject the identity of 'street kids'
Because of our interventions, the population of children on the street has decreased dramatically. We are the first point of contact for new children arriving on the streets. We know all of them. With networks all across the country, we trace relatives and, together with the child and government, identify the best home environment for them within their extended family. We then plan the child’s reintegration into the family, assessing whether they can return to their former school or enrol at Sepheo School.
Sepheo School is a place of safety and acceptance. When kids come off the streets, they are often too far behind and afraid to go back to mainstream school. Sepheo School allows children to catch up on their education at their own pace, using an accelerated curriculum, technology, individually focused learning and one-on-one tuition. Classes are fun and reinstil confidence in each child’s ability to learn.
Sepheo School has been designed around the needs of vulnerable children. Kids are shaped and transformed here. They begin to heal here. And they keep coming.
Sepheo School also reaches into surrounding villages to identify out-of-school children who require stronger social support to return to school.
